CPWR Medical Director


CPWR—The Center for Construction Research and Training ( is seeking a full time medical director to work in our Silver Spring, Maryland headquarters. The position is part of CPWR’s leadership team and has two main responsibilities:


  • Medical screening programs (50%). The medical director supervises the delivery of medical services in BTMed (, a national screening program for former construction workers who have been employed in the nation’s nuclear weapons facilities. BTMed contracts with 200 clinics nation-wide and the medical services are coordinated by a medical office with five full-time nurses. The medical director will assure the medical protocol is current; that screening exams are performed according to the protocol, perform quality assurance, supervise the nursing staff, make occupational illness determinations, review and prepare/approve medical results letters, and engage in studies of the screening data.
  • Construction safety and health research (50%). The medical director will serve as a senior research director in CPWR’s NIOSH-funded National Construction Research Center. The medical director will direct and/or collaborate on construction safety and health research projects; and serve as primary medical advisor on policy proposals/actions as they relate to construction worker health.


The applicant will be expected to author peer-reviewed journal articles as well as lay audience publications about screening program results and construction safety research findings.


Required Qualifications:
MD degree; Currently licensed in Maryland or eligible for licensing; Training and/or experience in occupational medicine;

Understanding of and interest in both primary and secondary prevention research and practice


Desired Qualifications:
Training in internal medicine and family practice; Experience in diagnosing, advising, and managing chronic occupational diseases; A track record of worker-focused experience

Compensation Package:
Salary is based on qualifications and prior experience as related to the position. CPWR provides an excellent work environment located in downtown Silver Spring, MD (a suburb of Washington, DC) near the metro and public parking.
