Job Details

University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) seeks a collaborative, innovative and entrepreneurial leader to serve as its next Dean of the UNMC College of Pharmacy. After serving as dean for more than a decade, Courtney Fletcher, Pharm.D., has announced that he has decided to step down in the fall. This is an extraordinary opportunity for a new dean to propel an internationally leading college of pharmacy through its next phase as part of a health sciences center campus in the midst of historic growth.

With just over 50 faculty, 240 Pharm.D. students, and 60 graduate students, the college has seen remarkable success for its size. Its Pharm.D. program is ranked amongst the top 25 in the U.S., and the college’s research funding from all sources places it among the top 10 in the nation. The college moved to a new 85,000 square-foot building in 2016 which boasts state-of-the-art laboratories and education space equipped with next-generation technology and simulation and experiential-learning tools designed to help prepare future pharmacists for expanded roles in a changing health care landscape. The number of applicants to the Pharm.D. program continues to rise, and the college has trained most of Nebraska’s pharmacists who serve urban and rural communities throughout the state. Graduates of the Pharmaceutical Sciences program are highly sought after for positions in academia, industry, and government. The incoming dean will inherit a strong foundation to build towards the future.

Based in Omaha, one of the nation’s best cities to live, UNMC is the state’s only public academic health sciences center, and has six colleges and two institutes, serving about 3,700 students in more than two dozen programs. UNMC has seen unprecedented growth across all its missions. With strong philanthropic and state support, the campus has recently completed over 1 million square feet in new or renovated construction and is on track to complete an additional million over the next five years. UNMC serves as the health sciences center campus in the four-campus structure of the University of Nebraska. UNMC is closely partnered with Nebraska Medicine, the most esteemed academic health system in the region, consisting of 809 licensed beds at its two hospitals, more than 1,000 physicians and 40 specialty and primary care clinics in Omaha and surrounding areas.

The incoming dean will hold a clinical or academic doctoral degree in pharmacy (Pharm.D.) or doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in a related field and will be qualified for the rank of professor. The ideal candidate will have an exceptional record as a teacher, investigator, and leader with proven ability to manage a complex academic enterprise, typically obtained through experience as a dean, associate/assistant dean, department chair, or center/institute director within a college of pharmacy. Candidates should have demonstrated scholarly achievement of national recognition, and have a broad understanding of complex issues of clinical pharmacy practice in today’s healthcare environment, with a vision for where pharmacy practice and education is headed.

Please direct all inquiries, nominations, and applications (including a CV and letter of interest) to Jeff Schroetlin and Dr. Joyce De Leo of Witt/Kieffer at UNMCPharmacy@wittkieffer.com.

The University of Nebraska Medical Center values diversity and is committed to equal opportunity for all persons regardless of age, color, disability, ethnicity, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status or any other status protected by law.
