Coley & Associates (Coley) has an immediate need for an experienced Instructional Games Designer who will work onsite at the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign Service Institute (FSI)—the Government’s premier foreign affairs training provider.

 

Coley is seeking an individual who demonstrates a strong ability to collaborate effectively with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to conduct needs/task analyses for professional training and solutions to performance based problems, create training objectives, design content, and develop assessments while demonstrating sound instructional principles, strategies and techniques. Experience producing instructional products in a “responsive” format is valued. The production of strategies to guide product definition, whether it be traditional e-Learning, mobile apps, blended learning, simulations, scenario-based training, or game-based learning, is highly valued.  Experience in micro-learning is highly valued.

 

You will work onsite at the George P. Shultz National Foreign Affairs Training Center in Arlington, Virginia. Situated in a campus-like setting of 72 acres, the Shultz offers more than 800 courses (nearly 600 on campus and 275 via distance learning platforms) with approximately 170,000 enrollments annually.

 

Your work will help FSI continue to be a catalyst for Global Change by employing cutting-edge educational technology, the latest advancements in cognitive research, and the work of innovative thought leaders from around the world to broaden organizational capacities and to strive for better outcomes for our country and the world.

Requirements

What You’ll Bring…

  • Ability to develop themes, stories, mechanics, and overall flow for games and interactive elements.
  • Expertise in designing game mechanics to accomplish learning objectives while demonstrating sound instructional principles, strategies and techniques.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Subject Matter Expert/s (SME) to conduct needs/audience analysis, develop training objectives and outlines, design content, and assessment items.
  • Skilled in detail-oriented documentation, with significant abilities in communicating with Government Project Managers, SME, and development team members in tactful manner, as well as providing feedback to Government Project Manager and clients.
  • Proven experience as a member of a team, positive interpersonal skills and a customer-service orientation, particularly with clients.
  • Demonstrable experience in gaming and/or simulations critical.
  • Experience in blending learning design desired.
  • Experience with eLearning COTS products valued.
  • Experience with epublishing valued.
  • Experience integrating social media applications for educational purposes valued.
  • Knowledge of foreign language learning applications valued.

Qualifications and Skills

Minimum of 3 years instructional, serious, or educational game design experience plus degree in Instructional Design, Game Design or related field, with proven, demonstrable ability in designing games for instruction for academic, military, and/or government audiences. Knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, HTML5 and Unity is a plus.
